Beauty doesn’t have to be about some pre-packaged chemical-filled “goop” that we throw on our face in hopes of appearing younger and healthier. You can attain the exact same benefits by using natural products that grow right from the earth – and they can be organic, too! If you’re interested in trying out some DIY treatments with food items that you can find right at the farmer’s market down the street, check out these quick, easy yet effective beauty strategies below:
The “Blue” Facial Mask
Nothing is better for our skin than blueberries. Loaded with antioxidants, blue berries not only help restore the youthfulness and vibrancy to our face, but they also help our body better manage with stress – which means less “worry lines” and wrinkles! The best part is that making this mask is so simple you can do it in your sleep. You only need:
- ¼ cup of organic, local blueberries
- 1 tablespoon or organic olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of organic honey
Throw these ingredients into a blender and blend them up so that they have a smooth and even consistency. Then, apply the mixture all over your face, taking care to avoid your mouth and eye area. Once 5 minutes or so have passed, gently wipe away the mask with a damp face cloth.
The Veggie Toner
Most toners that are sold in stores are so harsh that men and women of many skin types cannot even use them without their skin drying out and having adverse reactions to the product. This vegetable toner is more soothing than most that you will find on the shelves of several stores, and it’s also a natural tonic. The toner contains vitamin C, vitamin A, as well as riboflavin, three nutrients that will leave your skin looking vibrant and healthy.
To make this toner, all you need is:
- 1 cup of lettuce leaves
- 1 cup of chopped cucumber flesh
- 1 cup of chopped tomato
- 4 tablespoons of lemon juice
Toss these four ingredients into a juicer or a blender, and then strain the liquid by pressing the solids. To apply to the face, simply take a cotton swab and pass it over your face. You can keep the toner in the fridge for a few days, though it is always best to use it immediately after it is made.
The Tomato Cleanser
Juicy and delicious, tomatoes are also a great facial cleanser. Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and magnesium. These nutrients help not only nourish the skin, but they also help get rid of dead skin cells, they tone the skin, and they shrink your pores.
To make this cleanser, all you need is:
1 medium-sized ripe tomato
Take the tomato and put it in a blender. Once the tomato has been well mashed, strain it through some cheesecloth and then discard any pulp. Add equal parts yogurt to the juice and then apply it to the face and neck. Leave it on or 10 minutes and then rinse your face and neck with water. Pat your face dry.
